Sea of Cortez Bareboat Charter Has a New Home Base

If you could choose one destination to charter that The Moorings doesn’t currently offer, where would it be?

For quite some time now, according to the team at The Moornings, the answer they’ve received to that survey question has been La Paz, Mexico. Existing and prospective charter clients alike wanted a base for bareboats and crewed yachts in this part of the world, where vibrant marine life in the Sea of Cortez meets the undeveloped landscape ashore.

Thus, The Moorings charter base that just opened in La Paz. It’s been up and running since January. “One of the benefits of chartering with The Moorings is the diversity of the destination options we offer. There is truly something for everyone,” says senior marketing manager Ian Pedersen. “The lively social scene of the BVI is fantastic, for example, but it may not be what everyone is looking for. Some are truly looking to get away, and the more secluded, off-the-beaten-path destinations like Belize, the Exumas and now La Paz are ideal locations to truly disconnect away from the crowds.”

La Paz is also easier for West Coast residents to reach than other  bases, he says: “So many of our destinations are in the Caribbean or further afield in the Mediterranean, it can be a challenge for people on the US West Coast just to get there, often losing a day in travel. La Paz is a short distance away.”

It’s also a long way from the classic milk-run destinations that longtime charter clients know so well, giving everyone an option to experience a cruising vacation in a way that new and interesting experiences are guaranteed.  

Open for Bookings

The Moorings has a mix of three- and four-stateroom boats for charter in La Paz, including the Moorings 4300, 4500L and 4600 sailing catamarans, and the 403 and 464 power catamarans. All are newer models, and they are available for bareboating or for bookings with a Moorings skipper. The Moorings team says they may add to this initial fleet based on customer demand.
