This year’s International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte, France, included the unveiling of Joool, a hybrid-propulsion and smart energy system developed by the team behind Alternatives Energies in France.

According to Joool’s team, the modular and pre-configured system gives shipyards a single-source option for easier integration into builds. The company says it’s already working with several top sailboat manufacturers, including Fountaine Pajot, Dufour Yachts and Leopard Catamarans.

Joool’s team has more than 25 years of expertise in marine electrification. The company says its system is well beyond prototype stage, with installations aboard more than 100 vessels worldwide. The boats at La Grande Motte that had Joool systems included the Fountaine Pajot Aura 51; a Leopard C46; and a Yacht Concept Day One 80.

The system includes what Joool calls the OneBox. It’s an energy-management and conversion unit that integrates every energy source and output on board, including solar, wind, hydrogeneration, gensets and shore power. It comes with intuitive interfaces and real-time monitoring.

Also part of the Joool system are electric pod propulsion for quiet cruising; recyclable lithium-iron-phosphate batteries; and a smart energy propulsion management system with remote diagnostics. The system comes with a seven-year warranty and is ISO certified.

What does Joool say sailors can expect from its system? Silent cruising into remote coves, staying at anchor for days without needing to run a generator, and more.
