MJM Yachts is expanding its lineup with the introduction of the MJM 38RS, a sportfishing/cruising crossover model based on the builder’s 38R cruiser. The new model comes with a bevy of angling amenities.
“Many of our customers told us they love to cruise in their MJM 38R, but they also like to fish from its large cockpit when they reach their destination or on day trips in their home waters,” stated MJM Yachts President and CEO Natascia Hatch, in a press release. “So, in collaboration with Doug Zurn of Zurn Yacht Design, we created a new topsides layout for the yacht that adds the features owners need to take full advantage of the boat’s fishability.”
Anglers will appreciate the open cockpit. Transom doors flank the twin Mercury outboards (300 hp and 400 hp options are available), making it easy to slide a big fish on the deck. There is a 40-gallon island livewell with an 800-gph recirculating pump and curved sides to keep baits swimming happily. Two insulated in-sole fish boxes can keep the catch on ice and fresh for the ride home. Rod stowage comes in the form of six hardtop-mounted rod holders, four in-gunwale rod holders and two around in the livewell. There is also a removable bait-prep station.
The 38RS’s bridge deck is protected from the elements, but it can be opened up for fresh air and cross breezes via sliding side windows. Whether seeking escape from the heat, cold or rain, this setup creates a welcome retreat when the weather gets disagreeable. The galley is also in the pilothouse and to port, making it convenient to clean up after fishing or cook the catch at day’s end.
Belowdecks, there is a head compartment and a stand-alone shower. A convertible V-berth provides sleeping accommodations for weekending or longer cruising.
When it comes to performance, MJM says the 38RS should be capable of speeds of 43.5-knot-plus speed, so getting to the fishing grounds shouldn’t take long. A 2-foot-11-inch draft makes it skinny-water accessible too. The vessel’s optional Seakeeper 3 gyrostabilizer helps keep the ride stable as a table on rough days.
Look for the MJM 38RS to launch in 2026.
